This year there will be a federal election on Saturday 21 May to decide who will lead the government. You can make a difference by enrolling to vote, sharing what matters to you and meeting candidates.

About the election

The election will decide who will represent each electorate in the House of Representatives and represent the states and territories in the Senate. There are 151 seats in the House of Representatives and the party that wins a majority will lead the government. You can find out more in this quick introduction to the Australian Parliament.

The election will be really close and there are a lot of seats where a small number of votes may change the election outcome. The party that forms government will be responsible for leading the country. They will decide how the government responds to the pandemic, mental health, education, housing, discrimination and the climate crisis.

We believe that young people have the power to make a difference. In most seats across the country, there are enough young people to decide the outcome of the election.
